What is East Riding Domestic Abuse Trust (ERDAT)?

We are a small local charity set up in 2003 dedicated to support local individuals and families who have experienced domestic abuse.

We want those surviving domestic abuse to know they are not alone, they have not been forgotten and there is financial help available to enable them to move on with their lives.

We raise money through grants, donations and fundraising activities.

What do we do?

We provide funding for urgently needed items and essentials to those who have fled domestic abuse, live in the East Riding of Yorkshire and cannot access other funding.

We raise awareness of domestic abuse.

Context/Background

The Trustees and members are from diverse backgrounds including but not limited to, culture, skills (law, education, health, management, business, academia) race, religion. We currently do not have any members who have declared they have been victims of domestic abuse.

Charity set up in 2003 by a local solicitor to provide emergency funding to assist those fleeing domestic abuse to secure safe accommodation and essential household items.

There were ……..referrals for safe accommodation in the East Riding in 2025 / 2026.

• We accept referral for female and male victims
• We receive on average……. referrals a year. This has reduced from to…… since the introduction of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021- Councils now have a duty to provide more.
• Currently we only fund those who live in ER and are referred through DVAP or Lampstand. We are exploring if there are other robust routes we could accept referrals.
• We are exploring ways to see how the Trust needs to adapt to meet growing needs of those fleeing domestic violence who don’t access DVAP or Lampstand or other statutory services.
• Strict eligibility criteria must have tried all other avenues of funding we fund up to £ 400 per applicant, School uniforms are in addition. We can use our discretion if the need is great.
• We receive positive feedback from those who have received funding
• We have signed the Violence against Women and Children Pledge
• We work to the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, new definition of domestic abuse including Domestic abuse can therefore consist of any of the following: physical or sexual abuse, violent or threatening behaviour, controlling and coercive behaviour, economic abuse, psychological, emotional or other abuse. economic abuse, emotional, and coercive and controlling behaviour. We also recognise children as victims of domestic abuse in their own right.
